An Experienced Pilot Answers: Why is my flight delayed?
Vocational Chat with Denny O'Connell at our April 14th meeting answered that ever burning question for air travelers: The weather looks great, so why is my flight delayed? Suffern Rotary is fortunate to have a pilot that has served in the Armed Forces, National Guard, with a commercial airline and a pilot instructor. We enjoyed hearing the facts of what causes a flight delay along with Denny's personal stories-some humorous and some amazing! This was a great opportunity to have our numerous questions about piloting answered and to get to know more about our one and only Denny O'Connell.
Our International Committee chairperson, Donna Berard facilitated the April 28th presentation from the Xalapa Mexico. Suffern Rotary partnered with Gray, France Rotary Club on the highly successful Global Grant 1988835 to develop a vocational training program in Xalapa, a rural community that primarily grew coffee growers however there is a high number of unemployed young adults and women.
The grant developed vocational training for electricians, carpentry, dressmaking, hair styling, chicken & pig breeding & care, baking, candy making, as well as jam/jelly/sauce making. Fifty new entreprenueres were made! Thus far, 279 persons were trained from programs that started in March of 2020. Out of the 279 trainees, 235 were women.
Suffern Rotarians have been invited by the Xalapa Rotary Club to attend the Festival of Brotherhood & Service in Mexico in October 27-31, 2022 with Nov. 1-3 an optional 3 day local tour of clubs and sites . Our club members will only need to pay for airfare, lodging & meals will be provided by a local Rotarian. Contact Donalee for details if you are interested in attending.
