First Healing Through Service Meeting
Our first Mental Health RI Initiative evening meeting was Thursday August 30th at 6 pm at Diddy's.  Our speaker, Denny O'Connell. as always, captivated the audience by sharing how his training as a pilot on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder identification was important in helping others find help to aid their mental health. BRIDGES members Carlos and Mark explained the services and programs that are available at their organizations for Veterans dealing with PTSD.   As Rotarians, the more we know about mental health and support services, the better we can serve others.
More information on this disorder can be found at https://www.helpguide.org/articles/ptsd-trauma/helping-someone-with-ptsd.htm BRIDGES link is www.BridgesRC.org

Attention Hudson Valley Rotarians!

As you may have heard, The Rotary Foundation is funding a $100,000 urban environmental restoration project right here in our home District, and our "Planting Power Newburgh" project has begun!  Under the "Protecting the Environment" Area of Focus, Rotary District 7210 and Rhinebeck Rotary have partnered with Sustainable Hudson Valley and the Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy to develop an exciting environmental restoration and justice initiative that will protect the environment in the City of Newburgh and educate the community about the urban environment so they can shape their own future.

"Planting Power Newburgh" combines an in-depth environmental education and training series with hands-on planting of rain gardens, pollinator gardens, shade trees and even a food forest. It will also engage the community in maintaining the plantings, increasingly important in uncertain weather.  The project has already supported the Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy in providing a utility vehicle to transport water and materials to maintain plants and trees throughout the City!

Hands-on Rotarian support will be a critical ingredient in the success of this effort!  As District 7210 Rotarians, you are invited to participate in one, two or all three Planting Sessions on September 30, October 14 and October 28.

Please share this invitation and the attached flier with your fellow Club members and friends. To register or learn more go to the Planting Power Newburgh website.

THANK YOU for your ongoing support of The Rotary Foundation and this important local project.
Most sincerely,
Louis

The Heroes of Julia's Story
August 3rd was a very special Rotary meeting.  Larry Palant and Lisa Estrin shared the heart warming documentary of a young Ukrainian mother, Julia, and her son to start a new life here in the US.  Larry, Lisa and others from their temple worked together to help Julia find an apartment, a job, a car & childcare. Lisa helped Julia learn to drive too. Julia's brother has also immigrated to the US and has enrolled in college. The documentary movie was made for Julia's son so he would know the story of how he came to America. Pictures with Larry & Lisa is the president of their temple.
